Kotoun wins Moth North American Champs

Charleston, SC – April 12-14, 2013
Sixteen International Moths descended on James Island Yacht Club for the class’s 2013 North American Championship. Sponsored by Gorilla Rigging, the regatta was the culmination of the 2013 winter series.
Regatta organizer Anthony Kotoun (Mach 2 / MSL 16) stole the show, posting 12 points in 9 races and discarding only a third place finish. Kotoun put a point of emphasis on his regatta on Day 2, when he scored 4 straight first-place finishes. 2009 World Champion Bora Gulari (Mach 2 / North Sail) made a push on Day 3, but ran out of time to catch Kotoun. Dalton Bergan (Mach 2 / MSL 16) managed to assemble a brand new boat the day before the regatta and get it up to racing form in time to finish third. 2008 World Champion John Harris (Mach 2 / MSL 16) and class president Matt Knowles (Mach 2 / MSL 10D) rounded out the top five.
Thanks to host James Island Yacht Club and our sponsor Gorilla Rigging. The US Moth fleet convenes next in Newport, RI on May 10-11, 2013 for the Rhode Island State Championship.
